Winter Storm Jonas forced the postponement of two Capitals games and we now know when those games will be played. The NHL announced on Tuesday that the Caps will host the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 1 and the Anaheim Ducks on April 10.
The Caps were originally scheduled to play the Penguins on Sunday, Jan. 24 in a matinee matchup. That game will now be on Tues., March 1 at 7:30 p.m. That will give the Caps a back-to-back as the Caps will host Toronto on March 2. It also means a back-to-back for the Penguins who are hosting Arizona on Feb. 29. It breaks up what would have been a four-game home stand for Pittsburgh.
The more difficult challenge was to reschedule the game against the Ducks since Anaheim is not on the East Coast very often or for very long. To get around that problem the NHL extended each team's season by one day.
The NHL regular season was originally scheduled to end on April 9 with all 30 teams in action. Now, the NHL has added two games for April 10 with the Caps hosting Anaheim and the New York Islanders hosting the Philadelphia Flyers, another game that was postponed due to the blizzard.
Both the Caps and Ducks are on the road on April 9 in St. Louis and Colorado respectively. They will meet in Washington on April 10 at 7:30 p.m. It is a game that could have a lot of meaning for Anaheim as the Ducks are in the thick of a playoff race in the Pacific Division.
