Washington Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom has been named the NHL's third star of the week for the week ending on Nov. 20.

Backstrom led the NHL in points over the past week, earning eight points in the team's four games.

He matched a career-high in points with five in Washington's blowout win over the rival Pittsburgh Penguins and scored the Caps' lone goal Tuesday in Columbus. He also added two points to his total in Sunday's loss, scoring the game's opening goal and assisting on Alex Ovechkin's power play tally.

Backstrom was held off the scoresheet in only one of the Caps' four games over the week.

Joining Backstrom in the NHL's "Three Stars" this week are Los Angeles forward Jeff Carter and Carolina goalie Cam Ward.

Carter was named first star with three game-winning goals while Ward was named the league's second star after winning three games with a save percentage of .964.
