On Tuesday, the Capitals took the ice at Kettler Iceplex to prepare for Game 1 of their 2017 NHL Playoffs second-round series against the Penguins.

But but the time practice ended on Tuesday morning, a bevy of Capitals players were not on the ice.

Most notable was Tom Wilson, who exited the ice after taking a puck to the foot. He attempted to return, but then went back to the locker room. It is not expected to be a serious issue, however.

On top of that, Lars Eller was not on the ice, as he took a maintenance day.

Chandler Stephenson filled in for Eller on the third line along side Wilson and Andre Burakovsky. Karl Alzner, who missed the final three games of the first-round series, was not on the ice for a majority of practice, but was on the ice for powerplay and penalty kill work.

Alex Ovechkin and Nate Schmidt both dealt with non-injury issues on Tuesday. Ovechkin was unable to participate because of skate problems. Coach Barry Trotz asked Ovechkin if he had extra skates, but Ovechkin said they were not ready for use. Like Ovechkin, Nate Schmidt began practice on the ice, but like Ovechkin, had to leave practice because his skate was broken.

But with Game 1 not taking place until Thursday night, Tuesday was the perfect day to deal with minor issues.
