The Caps extended their lead in the Metropolitan Division with a critical 3-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Sunday.
Here’s a recap of the three bold predictions.
1. Lars Eller and/or Brett Connolly will score - Wrong
I predicted a goal from the third line and the Caps got it…from the one guy I did not predict. Andre Burakovsky got his first goal since returning to the lineup from a broken hand. Eller and Connolly both played better than they have recently, especially Eller who recorded an assist.
2. Columbus will be limited to two goals or fewer - Correct
When the Caps went up 3-0, it was a good sign they would be able to get the win. Not just because they had a three-goal lead, but because the Blue Jackets can’t seem to score lately. They have now been held to fewer than three goals in six of their last seven games.
3. Kevin Shattenkirk will get at least a point - Correct
I expected more offense from the blue line in this game. It didn’t quite work out that way, but Shattenkirk still managed the assist on Burakovsky’s goal as he helped the Caps break out into Columbus’ zone.
