It was yet another lopsided affair at Verizon Center on Tuesday as the Capitals blew away the Carolina Hurricanes 5-0. Here's a recap of the three bold predictions.

1. The Capitals defense will get at least three combined points - Correct

I'm more relieved about this one than anything else. Had Washington scored five goals and this one was still wrong, I would know I was officially cursed. Matt Niskanen had two assists while John Carlson and Nate Schmidt each had one. Plus, Karl Alzner hit the post in the first period and Schmidt was denied on a two-on-one opportunity with Alex Ovechkin.

2. Carolina will snap Washington's streak of scoring five goals or more at home - Wrong

I honestly did not believe Carolina would start Eddie Lack otherwise I never would have made this prediction. Tuesday was Lack's first game since November. What better way to build up a goalie confidence than to play him against a team that has chased six goalies in the last six weeks? Part of me wonders if head coach Bill Peters just thought his team would likely lose this game anyway, so why waste a start for Cam Ward who already has 44 starts this season. That's a defeatist attitude that typically does not sit well in the locker room.

3. Sebastian Aho will get at least a point - Wrong

Aho played fairly well despite the result for Carolina with three shots on goal including a breakaway opportunity in the second period that could have dramatically changed the game had Braden Holtby not denied him.

2017 Results: When it's a safer bet to say a team will shutout its opponent and score five or more goals, then things are going pretty well. This streak has to end eventually, but boy do the Caps look impressive right now.
