The Caps battled back from a third period deficit to force overtime and earn the 4-3 shootout win over the Carolina Hurricanes.

Here's a recap of the three bold predictions.

1. A Capitals defenseman will score - Wrong

Matt Niskanen, Dmitry Orlov and John Carlson all registered assists, but the blue liners were held out of the net by goalie Cam Ward.

2. Washington will score a power play goal - Correct

The Caps got only two opportunities with the extra man, but still took advantage with a goal from Alex Ovechkin. The goal was not your typical power play goal as it came on a quick transition started by a smart pass from John Carlson to Nicklas Backstrom to start the break. Ovechkin was not in the office, but took the pass and rifled a snap shot from the top of the circle off the crossbar and in.

3. Jordan Staal will have a multi-point game with at least one goal - Wrong

Staal was held off the scoresheet and was largely a non-factor with only one shot on goal for the game.
