Our take: Despite a magnificent 60-goal season from Steven Stamkos the Lightning couldnt keep the puck out of their own net and missed the playoffs by eight points. They addressed some holes on defense by acquiring Matt Carle and Sami Salo but the real key is between the pipes, where they are counting on 6-foot-6 netminder Anders Lindback to emerge from the shadows of backing up Pekka Rinne in Nashville. If Lindback proves to be a true No. 1, the Bolts are good enough to return to the playoffs. If not, they wont.
Offseason grade: C
Will they make the 2013 playoffs? Yes.Projected finish: 8th
