After a long recovery from hip surgery, Nicklas Backstrom will be in the lineup tonight when the Carolina Hurricanes visit Verizon Center (7 p.m., CSN). It was looking that way when Backstrom skated with starters at Saturday's practice, and the news was confirmed by Backstrom later in the morning.
Sidelined since offseason hip surgery on May 27, Backstrom took line rushes on a second line with left wing Marcus Johansson and right wing Justin Williams.
Backstrom led the NHL in assists last season with 60.
"Just playing against him and seeing the way he's able to slow the game down and make everything seem easy is going to be exciting," Oshie said, "because it doesn't feel that way when I have the puck."
Trotz kept the first line of Alex Ovechkin, Evgeny Kuznetsov and T.J. Oshie and the third line of Jason Chimera, Jay Beagle and Tom Wilson intact, while creating a new fourth line of Brooks Laich, Chandler Stephenson and Andre Burakovsky.
That means Michael Latta and Stan Galiev, along with defenseman Nate Schmidt, are expected to be healthy scratches tonight.
