The Capitals made their first round of cuts Thursday afternoon, reassigning and/or cutting a total of 21 players.
The training camp roster now stands at 44 players, including goalies Braden Holtby and Philipp Grubauer, who have not yet returned from the World Cup of Hockey.
The prospects returned to their junior clubs were Connor Hobbs, Lucas Johansen, Beck Malenstyn, Garrett Pilon and Dmitriy Zaitsev.
Sent to Hershey were Chris Bourque, Ryan Bourque, Dustin Gazley, Dylan Margonari, Tim McGauley, Parker Milner, Domenic Monardo, Hubert Labrie, Joey Leach, John Parker and Colby Williams.
Hershey’s training camp opens Monday.
Meanwhile, Dan DeSalvo, Nolan LaPorte, Steven McParland, Josh Pitt and Jay Williams were cut.

The Capitals are off on Friday. On Saturday, there will be a morning skate at Kettler Capitals Iceplex for the players who are traveling to Bridgeport, Connecticut, to face the Islanders that night. The other players will practice at 11 a.m.
