As the Washington Football Team looks for a new permanent name, it's no surprise that a faction of fans yearn for something new, exciting and out of the box. Think Red Wolves and Redtails as examples.
But, sometimes less is more. There are some who like the simplicity of the Washington Football Team, or even the Washington Football Club. So, how about we stick with that theme while also making a slight adjustment to the "location" of the team in order to further embody the history and spirit of the city?
That's exactly what Ben Markowitz did when creating a DC Football Club logo design.
The idea is incredibly similar to the Washington Football Club brand, but it instead decides to mark the team directly in Washington D.C. Even though many understand that Washington represents the district, a switch to DC really puts the team at the heart of the historical city. Additionally, the change could help aid the process of bringing the franchise back to a stadium more centralized.
As for as the logo goes, it does a good job of popping without doing too much, and it keeps the Burgundy and Gold intact. The main football symbol nods at the city's flag could easily become the centerpiece for the helmet. DC FC is also something that rolls off the tongue pretty easily.
The main concern some may have with this design is its similarity to the sport of soccer. Though it doesn't completely overlap with DC United, the logo and name do resemble the vibe that many MLS and international clubs have. That doesn't have to be a negative, however, as the team could be the first to bring this kind of style to the NFL.
If simplicity is something you're looking for in the next moniker for the team, DC Football Club offers a similar appeal to Washington Football Team or Club while paying homage to the capital of the country.
