While Washington's NFL franchise continues to work through the process of choosing its next team name, one former player believes the decision has already been made.

On July 12, ex-Washington pass rusher Junior Galette sent out a tweet that the franchise would be called the 'Red Wolves.'

A few days later, Galette doubled down on his claim, responding to an NBC Sports Washington poll asking what the new name fans like the best by saying "Didn't I already tell you guys what the name is?"

Over recent weeks, the Red Wolves moniker has gained an incredible amount of popularity. Former Washington cornerback Fred Smoot started the movement, and several prominent Washington fan accounts on social media have joined in.

Additionally, the Red Wolves would allow Washington fans to keep it's beloved 'HTTR' acronym and the Burgundy and Gold colors. The fight song could probably be saved with just a few minor changes. With Red Wolves, there's also a military connection that the team has stressed they want in the new name.

As it stands now, Red Wolves has all the momentum. But, does that matter to Washington owner Dan Snyder and those others in charge of deciding the new name? It's unknown.

Galette's proclamation that Red Wolves will be the team's new name has excited a lot of people on social media. For the pass rusher's sake, hopefully, he's right, or thousands of angry Washington fans will start flooding his notifications.
