ESPN’s Max Kellerman had some strong words for the entire Washington franchise, specifically Dan Snyder, on Thursday.
On First Take, he unloaded on the decision to name the team the Washington Football Team for the 2020 season and instead operate without a name.
“This is why you don’t get caught with your pants down, Dan Snyder,” Kellerman said. “For how many years have I been sitting here saying, ‘Change the name, you will change the name.’ Why not get out in front of it? Instead, they’re way, way behind it. And now they have this ridiculous Washington Football Team. The level of incompetence, because of the arrogance of that organization is staggering. This was easy. Any dummy could do this. But you couldn’t see it.”
After Washington dropped its name a few weeks ago in early July, they embarked on a search for a new name. But now, that decision won’t come until it’s time for the 2021 season.
Kellerman lamented the fact that Washington waited until now to make the decision, one he says the organization should’ve seen coming.
“First of all, even if you didn’t want to do the right thing, you couldn’t see it coming?” Kellerman said. “You couldn’t see that you can’t have a racist epithet as a team name, that that was not gonna last and you have nothing right now? ‘Well we want to do it right and go through the process.’ You should’ve been done that years ago. But at least months ago. This is bad ownership by Dan Snyder. He is an embarrassment. The Washington franchise is an embarrassment. I don’t think they get it together until he is out of the league.”
