As we wait on the Washington football team to announce their new name, fans are after any hint they can find.
Jonathan Allen stirred Twitter 10 days ago by simply tweeting "HTTR," so we already know it doesn't take much. Then on Monday, it was revealed that a Reddit user discovered a potential connection to the name "Sentinels" based on website domain registration.
As WUSA9's Darren Haynes points out, a user named "staticrush" found that MarkMonitor Inc., the company that registers and manages "Redskins.com" registered a new domain called "DCSentinels.com."
The company registered the domain on July 15.
"Sentinels" could be seen as a bit of a dark horse candidate for the new name. With "Warriors," "Red Wolves" and "Red Tails" dominating the conversation lately, few have discussed "Sentinels" as a realistic option.

However, the name has a decent connection to Washington D.C. It was discussed as the name of the city's XFL team before that franchsie was named the Defenders, and it appears famously as D.C.'s professional football team in the popular 2001 movie The Replacements, starring Keanu Reeves.
The definition of a "Sentinel" is a soldier or guard whose job is to stand and keep watch, so while it doesn't exactly portray something fierce like "Red Wolves" or "Warriors," it might inspire discipline and calm under pressure. Those aren't the worst characteristics to have on a football field.
It's difficult to tell how much weight this discovery actually has, but it at least caught the attention of the Sports Junkies Wednesday morning.

"Just a week ago, 'DC Sentinels' was transferred to the MarkMonitor registrar, which is used for all 32 NFL teams," Eric Bickel said. "I mean it makes sense! It fits the timeline... I think [staticrush] may be on to something."
None of the Junkies liked the idea of the "DC Sentinels" or the "Washington Sentinels," though.
"It's an awful name," John Auville said. "I'm just going to go on record, and I'm sure I'll be wrong, but there's no chance they're going to be called the 'D.C. Sentinels.'"
"I like 'Red Wolves' more, but they're still all terrible," Bickel said.
From over-analyzing player tweets to going crazy about a Reddit user's findings on domain registrar records, it's probably safe to say the Washington football name change saga has surpassed NBA free agency-level hysteria.
