As the Nationals inch closer to naming Bud Black their next manager, Black’s connections to the D.C. area are already surfacing before he has been officially named to the position.

Pointed out in a tweet from ESPN panelist Kevin Blackistone, Black’s daughter Jessie was on the gymnastics team at Maryland from 2011-2014.

Jessie, who graduated in 2014, received multiple student-athlete accolades, including Maryland’s Sylvester Watch that recognizes “a student athlete that demonstrates courageousness in the face of adversity,” according to her official Maryland bio.

Her bio also states that she was recruited by California, Alaska, Penn and Yale.

A source told CSN’s Mark Zuckerman that the Nationals’ official hiring of Bud is unlikely to come until after the World Series. But when it does, the family certainly already has ties to the area established.
