Nationals star gives more than generous tip

BY JEFF SLADE

Jayson Werth will be waiting a few more weeks to make headlines again in Washington, but that didn't stop the Nationals right fielder from making news in Buffalo.

Werth, currently on rehabilitation assignment with the Triple A Syracuse Chiefs, went out to dinner Monday night in Buffalo following a defeat to the Buffalo Bisons.

Attending the West Side restaurant The Black Sheep, Werth seemingly enjoyed his dining experience profusely, as he left an extremely generous $100 tip on a $180 bill, coming out to a hefty 55 percent.

The beneficiary of Werth’s generosity, local waitress and actress Jessica Wegrzyn, took to Instagram to show her thanks:

Perhaps it’s easier to provide 55 percent tips when making a cool $21 million a year, but it was still a substantial gesture for the bearded star to make.

Recovering from a fractured left wrist suffered in May, Werth will hopefully provide a punch back into the Nationals lineup upon his return.

For now, he’ll just be happy to brighten a waitress’s day.

Zimmerman and Doolittle rep school pride at Nationals Park UVA Night

Zimmerman and Doolittle rep school pride at Nationals Park UVA Night

Ahead of Friday’s matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Nationals hosted the University of Virginia Night at the ballpark and the men’s basketball championship team joined as special guests.

Nationals closer Sean Doolittle and first baseman Ryan Zimmerman, both Cavaliers during their college days, took the chance to rep their school pride.

The two alums posed for pictures with the championship trophy, with Doolittle decked out in a UVA shirt and championship hat.

Zimmerman and Doolittle played ball together for the Cavaliers in 2005 while Zimmerman was a junior and Doolittle was a freshman.

While at UVA, the Cavaliers both players collected several accolades. Zimmerman was named 2005 All-American and named to the 2004 Charlottesville NCAA Regional All-Tournament Team. Doolittle formerly held the record for wins in a career for a Virginia pitcher and in 2005 and 2006 was named to the USA National (Collegiate) Baseball Team.
