Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is just a rookie, but he's already a workaholic. Luckily, longtime girlfriend Melissa Urich understands.
According to the New York Post, Wentz and Urich are high school sweethearts who plan to marry. She's apparently used to his all-work ways.
While she won’t hesitate to take his cellphone away during date nights — he was caught watching game film under the dinner table — she understands how much her boyfriend is dedicated to his craft.
Smarts and hard work go hand-in-hand explaining Wentz' early success in the NFL.
“I told the NFL scouts, if you ask [Wentz] to work 60 hours, he’s going to work 80 hours," North Dakota State offensive coordinator Tim Polasek told CBS Sports in March. "In that off time, he’s going to be with his two companions -- his dog and he’s got a significant other [girlfriend].”
In that same CBS piece, Bison head coach Chris Klieman raved about Wentz' intelligence.
“His ability to process information is second to none. He’s a 4.0 student. His memory is just unbelievable.”
No quarterback in the NFC East has played as well as Philadelphia's rookie. Granted the NFL season is one two weeks old, but Wentz has some impressive stats.
To recap, he's the first rookie QB to start the season 2-0 without a single turnover. He also threw more than 30 passes in each of those games, racking up 468 yards and three touchdowns with a 60% completion rate.
The Redskins will face Wentz first on October 16 at FedEx Field, then travel to Philadelphia for their second matchup on December 11.
