Eli Manning is 36 years old and has been the New York Giants' starting quarterback for the last 12 seasons (meaning he's been calling plays for the Giants for one-third of his life.) Manning is projected to have at most two or three more quality seasons before he retires, a reality that is not lost on Giants head coach Ben McAdoo.
General manager Jerry Reese and VP of player evaluation Marc Ross regularly make trips to college Pro Days to scope out potential draft picks. "But Giants coach Ben McAdoo doesn't," according to Pro Football Talk's Darin Gantt, "so when he does it stands out."
McAdoo attended Texas Tech's Pro Day Friday to meet with and evaluate Patrick Mahomes. The team also met with Mahomes a few weeks earlier at the NFL Combine. In his junior season Mahome threw for 5,052 yards, 41 touchdowns and ran for 12 touchdowns.
This is reportedly the first Pro Day McAdoo has attended in his role as Giants head coach, which may indicate the seriousness of his interest in Mahomes to fill Manning's shoes.
