Terrelle Pryor embraces the outsized expectations of Redskins fans, because, he holds the same goals. Pryor wants to dominate for the Redskins this fall, and post a monster statistical season.

Kirk Cousins needs Pryor to be a beast, both for his goals and the team. The players operate in a codependent situation, especially after the departure of 2016 leading wideouts DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garçon.

Now, just because Pryor and Cousins want the same things, doesn't mean the process will be seamless. In fact, through two preseason games, it hasn't been.

Pyryor has been on the field for 30 snaps so far this preseason, and has just one catch on three targets. In the first game against Baltimore, Cousins missed Pryor with a ball too high. Against Green Bay, Cousins threw a ball that it seemed Pryor maybe could have gotten, but it fell incomplete.

On Wednesday, after practice at Redskins Park, the wideout and quarterback decided to get some extra work in.

"If you know something's not right, and then you don’t fix it, then we're really not pros. Then we really don’t take this job seriously. As soon as we got done with practice, I came over to Kirk and I was like, ‘Hey, let’s hit this route.’ And he said, ‘Man, you read my mind, I was about to grab you.’"

From there Pryor and Cousins worked on the specific route for the better part of 30 minutes. Pryor explained that the duo just need to sync their timing. The routes are working in practice, but they can be better, and that's where both players want to be.

"One of the benefits of working with Terrelle is that he just really loves football. And that’s evident with the fact that he wants to stay after practice, he wants to talk about the routes and the nuances of it," Cousins said.

Pryor expanded on some of the nuances he's trying to figure out.

"Sometimes the timing is off," he said, before describing the intricacies of facing different cornerbacks with different styles. Against many of Washington's corners, a "feisty" bunch per Pryor, the timing between bump coverage into a zone and bump man coverage requires an extra hitch for Cousins before firing the ball.

That little time, that tenth of a second, is what Pryor and Cousins want to lock in. That's what the extra time after practice should develop.

"I take it upon myself to get him the football, give him opportunities," Cousins said. "He’s so talented, and he has such a good heart and works so hard, I want to make sure he’s given a chance to be really successful and have a great year this year."

Remember, too, that Pryor is still growing as a receiver, and the extra time with Cousins only accelerates that development.

"We just got to keep fine tuning that stuff, working on the timing," Pryor said. "Just because things don’t work the first time doesn’t mean that come Week 1 we're not going to be clicking.  I believe we will be clicking."
