The Redskins may be commencing talks on a three-way trade that would send Kirk Cousins to the 49ers and bring Tony Romo to the Redskins, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media.
His tweets were light on detail, here they are:
The first thing to note here is that this is far from a done deal. Rapoport mentions “playing it forward” based on inquiries that have been made. For every deal that gets done there are dozens and dozens of inquiries.
Also, there is more to fill in here than just the 49ers getting Cousins, the Redskins getting Romo, and the Cowboys getting picks.
Even though Cousins’ contract situation makes his value hard to judge, the it clearly is more than just a swap for Romo, who will turn 37 next month and has played just five games in the past two seasons.
Again, this is not close to being done, it is just a “potential” deal. But a reporter with Rapoport’s credentials isn’t going to just make up something like this out of thin air so there must be some fire, if only a tiny flame, to go with the smoke.
