The Redskins have signed a handful of tryout players from last weekend’s rookie minicamp, according to reports and information gathered by CSNWashington.com. Among them:
- LB Houston Bates, Louisiana Tech
An outside linebacker, Bates (6-3, 250 according to the La. Tech roster) recorded 10 sacks and 16 tackles for loss last season. Was an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection.
- QB Hutson Mason, Georgia
In 13 games, Mason completed 67.9-percent of his passes for 2,168 yards, 21 touchdowns and four interceptions last season. With Washington State’s Connor Halliday abruptly leaving the team on the eve of camp, Mason is the Redskins’ fourth quarterback.
- OT Tovar Allen, Alabama State
Listed at 6-5, 321-pounds, Allen’s addition continues the Redskins’ emphasis on size in the trenches. He started at right tackle as a sophomore and junior.
- LB Dasman McCullum, Southern Miss
Listed at 6-4, 242-pounds on his school’s roster, McCullum recorded 13 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and an interception last season. He played defensive end in college but figures to play outside linebacker in the Redskins’ 3-4.
- DT Daryl Waud, Western University (Ontario)
Received mini-camp invitations to the Giants and Redskins and was drafted 12th overall by the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts. Listed at 6-5, 270 by his school, Waud recorded 55 solo tackles, seven sacks and two interceptions in his college career.
Because the Redskins entered the weekend with one spot available on the 90-man roster, four players must be released to make room for the additions. There was no immediate word about the cuts.
