The Redskins may have won their preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns, but the team is reeling this morning from tight end Niles Paul's season-ending ankle injury he suffered in the first quarter.
Paul, 26, signed a new contract earlier in the offseason and earned the title of the team's top tight end entering preseason. By all accounts, he had become one of the leaders on the squad and was set to have a breakout 2015 campaign.
But the harsh reality of the NFL hit hard Thursday night, so Paul took to social media in the aftermath to give their take on the tough news.
Life can be cruel sometimes. Thank you for all your well wishes & prayers. They are very much appreciated

Other Redskins players were quick to post messages of support for Paul as well as running back Silas Redd, who also suffered a serious injury that could very well sideline him for the season.
Injuries man smh. Prayers to my dawg @Niles_Paul84. Gonna hold it down for you.

It's not even the second week of preseason, but the Redskins look like they're going to be in the market for a tight end or two before the regular season begins.
