Value shopping? Redskins did just that at NFL Draft per Pro Football Focus

Few folks surrounding the NFL thought Alabama defensive lineman Jonathan Allen would fall to the Redskins with the 17th pick. He did, and Washington is that much better because of it.

Pro Football Focus loved the pick, so much that the group ranked Allen's selection as the top value pick in the 2017 Draft. From PFF:

The No. 2 overall player on PFF’s big board, Allen has been one of our favorite players in the class for quite some time. His 67 total QB pressures last season were easily the most among interior defenders in the FBS, and he also earned the eighth-highest grade in run defense. Allen also offers an upgrade to a huge need position where Washington lost their best interior lineman in Chris Baker.

Allen will likely be immediately pressed into service for the Redskins, though he will have to earn his snaps from free agent additions Terrell McClain and Stacy McGee.

Going into the 2017 offseason, it was obvious the 'Skins needed to overhaul their defensive line. Drafting Allen ranks as the strongest move toward that effort.

LeBron James hopes Dwayne Haskins makes his doubters pay — but still won't root for Redskins

LeBron James hopes Dwayne Haskins makes his doubters pay — but still won't root for Redskins

As soon as the Redskins picked him 15th overall in Thursday's first round of the NFL Draft, Dwayne Haskins picked up millions of new fans.

He also got a tweet from one very, very, very, VERY famous supporter, a guy who rooted for him when he starred at Ohio State last season.

Here's what LEBRON JAMES had to say in response to a post from teammate Josh Hart, who was imploring James to join the Burgundy and Gold bandwagon after Haskins' arrival:

So, Haskins isn't enough to entice James to start throwing around HTTRs, but the NBA legend is already backing the franchise's new passer. Not too shabby for a 21-year-old rookie.

Redskins trade back into first round to land Montez Sweat, capping off an incredible start to the draft

Redskins trade back into first round to land Montez Sweat, capping off an incredible start to the draft

The Redskins snagged Dwayne Haskins in Round 1 of the NFL Draft on Thursday. But then, they decided they wanted more.

So, Washington traded back into the first round into the 26th slot and picked up Mississippi State pass rusher Montez Sweat, too.

Talk about putting in work.

The Redskins gave up their second-round choice this year (No. 46 overall) as well as their 2020 second-rounder to move into the Colts' position late on Thursday night. In return, they added an athletic prospect who could be a huge problem for offensive lineman opposite of Ryan Kerrigan.

Sweat accrued double-digit sacks in each of his past two seasons for the Bulldogs, then blew up at the Combine. His 4.41 40-yard dash is absurd for someone at his size and his wingspan is about as good as it gets for NFL players as well.

So, why'd he last until 26?

Well, Sweat was diagnosed with a heart condition that could have scared some teams away. However, reports are now saying that condition may not be as serious or worrisome as originally believed.

Of course, the medical side needs to be sorted out. However, what's clear right away is this: The 'Skins not only added a potential franchise passer Thursday in Nashville, they also were aggressive in getting a guy that might elevate their defense to a new level.

Now, Sweat joins what is already a stacked and young front-seven and will line up alongside the likes of Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne and Matt Ioannidis. To opposing QBs who'll face the Burgundy and Gold next year, here's a piece of advice: Know where your hot read is so you can get that ball out fast.
