RICHMOND - With their first preseason game coming this Thursday night in Baltimore (coverage starts on CSN at 6 p.m.) the Redskins posted their first official depth chart of the 2017 season.

Keep in mind that the NFL mandates teams post a depth chart, and what shows up the first week of August might not look the same when games matter in early September.

With that as a frame of reference, let's look at the depth charts for both the offense and the defense.

Offense: No real surprises here. Perhaps it's a mild surprise that Josh Doctson gets listed as the starting wideout before the first preseason game, but everyone that has watched him work in Richmond knows he was getting that spot over Ryan Grant.

Also note that Chris Thompson is the backup to Rob Kelley at running back, not Samaje Perine. Thompson's role is more refined, however, as he lines up on third downs and whenever the team goes up-tempo.

Defense: The linebacker fight is ongoing, though the first depth chart suggests Mason Foster and Will Compton will get the start. I would wager that looks different when the Redskins play the Eagles on September 10th. Zach Brown is making a strong push at camp.

Phil Taylor at nose is a slight surprise, especially this early. The team definitely wants him in that role for the regular season, though. It's also interesting that Matt Ioannidis is so far down the depth chart. He's had a good camp and looks to be much improved from his rookie year. Remember too that Trent Murphy will be suspended the first four games, so rookie Ryan Anderson will be up even higher when the action starts.

Not to mention, this depth chart shows Junior Galette backing up Ryan Kerrigan with Preston Smith starting on the other side.

Thus far in camp, Galette has been a force, and seems like a reasonable bet that he will line up across from Kerrigan, especially as Smith is dealing with a sprained ankle.
