Last week, the Washington Spirit saw their match against the Portland Thorns postponed due to four positive COVID-19 cases on the Spirit, the NWSLÂ announced.
However, this week, the NWSL isn't planning on postponing the Spirit's fixture against the OL Reign. The league released a statement announcing that the match scheduled for Sunday at 5 p.m. will go down as a forfeit by the Spirit.
The NWSL came to this conclusion following a breach of the league's medical protocols by the Spirit. FIFA's guidelines regarding a forfeit will reward the OL Reign with a 3-0 victory.Â
As for the Spirit, their next match will be Sept. 26 at Segra Field against Kansas City.Â
