Wizards star John Wall donated $400,000 to a local charity that serves the families of homeless children.
The Bright Beginnings Center serves about 162 children daily and will now be able to expand their efforts thanks to Wall's donation. The donation was announced in a news release by the organization on Friday.
"I like how they give parents an opportunity to find a job, giving those kids an opportunity to get education, have somewhere to sleep, some food to eat. I thought it was important to give back," Wall said after the first day of training camp.
News of Wall's act of kindness came on the heels of his 3rd annual youth basketball camp on Saturday.
"I told everybody before, God gave me the ability and the talent to play basketball and do something I love," Wall said. "I think it’s more important and bigger to give back to the community and do certain things to show people you care."
Wall received a lot of love on social media for his generosity, including from Coach John Calipari who coached Wall at the University of Kentucky. The children who will benefit the most from Wall's donation are too young to appreciate Wall's generosity, but he still felt the appreciation from the staff.
"The kids … they don’t know what’s happening and what I did. Only the people that was working there," Wall said.
"It was exciting to put smiles on their faces."
