Out with the triangle in with the Princeton offense? According to a yahoo sports report the Los Angeles Lakers are close to signing Eddie Jordan as an assistant coach. Gilbert Arenas, Caron Bulter, and Antawan Jamison all enjoyed career years under the tutelage of Jordan and his Princeton offense here in Washington. Jordan wasnt able to produce similar results with the Sixers but the Lakers have a veteran team and this could be a good fit.
Its no secret that Lakers coach Mike Brown is a defensive genius but his offensive sets have always produced criticism. On paper when you throw Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum into the Princeton set the Lakers should have a more fluid offense.
Apparently this is something that Bryant has fully endorsed.
Its a great offense, Bryant told Yahoo! Sports. Its exactly what we need. It takes us back to being able to play by making reads and reacting to defenses. It takes a great deal of communication, but thats where were at our best: Reading and reacting as opposed to just coming down and calling sets. Calling sets make you vulnerable.
Theres so many threats, so many options, its very tough to defend. Against the type of defenses that teams play nowadays, they load up on one side and are constantly coming with help from the weak side. The Princeton offense makes it very, very tough to lock in on one particular player.
