Before John Wall became a Wizard, he was a Wildcat. And before Chris Miller became a CSN reporter, he was a die-hard Tar Heel fan.
Now the two work closely together all the time, but that doesn't mean they see eye-to-eye on college basketball. Especially not when talking about North Carolina vs. Kentucky.
Wall and Miller got into one of their UNC vs. UK debates on camera during the All-Star's recent visit to the CSN offices. And in the grand tradition of sports debates, this one started with a hypothetical.
What if North Carolina's all-time greatest players faced Kentucky's all-time greatest players in a game of five-on-five? Who would win?
Spoiler alert: Miller says Tar Heels. Wall disagrees -- vehemently.
Let's take a look at the lineups ourselves, shall we?
Miller's all-time starting five for North Carolina looks like this:
1. Phil Ford, point guard
2. Michael Jordan, shooting guard
3. Antawn Jamison, small forward
4. Tyler Hansbrough, power forward
5. Brad Daugherty, center
Coach: Dean Smith
Wall countered with his all-time starting five for Kentucky:
1. Himself, point guard
2. Derek Anderson, shooting guard
3. Antoine Walker, small forward
4. DeMarcus Cousins, power forward
5. Anthony Davis, center
Coach: John Calipari
In case you weren't aware of the rules, we're talking about college players! Their development in the NBA doesn't count, just how they played at their peaks in college. College only -- got it? College.
You can watch the full back-and-forth in the video player at the top of the page. Be prepared -- this isn't the reserved Wall you're used to seeing in interviews. Look out for his hot takes on MJ, Hansbrough and even his younger self.
Oh and by the way, USA TODAY released its college basketball preseason poll Thursday. Tied for first? North Carolina and Kentucky.
