Wizards' John Wall named Eastern Conference Player of the Month for December

Wizards' John Wall named Eastern Conference Player of the Month for December

For the second December in a row, John Wall won Player of the Month for the Eastern Conference, the league office announced Tuesday, leading the Wizards to 10-5 with 24.5 points, 10.7 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 2.7 steals.

Wall is just one of three guards in the NBA to average a points-assist double-double. He had 11 double-doubles in the month, with one of them bieng points-rebounds.

Wall set a career-high with 52 points in a loss to the Orlando Magic and came one assist short of his first triple-double of the season with 36 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists in a win over the Indiana Pacers.

The league named Wall the East's Player of the Week on Monday.

Last year, when the Wizards were struggling to gain their footing as they played from an early-season hole, Wall led his injury-depleted team to an 8-8 December that was highlighted by his dominance in a win at the Cleveland Cavaliers. He did even better this time.

James Harden was named Player of the Month in the Western Conference. He led the Houston Rockets, who defeated the Wizards last night, to a 15-2 mark with 28.3 points and 12.0 assists.

With the NBA drawing closer to an official return, a few Wizards players participated in voluntary workouts Thursday morning at the MedStar Performance Center.

The Wizards tweeted a video where you can find Moe Wagner, Admiral Schofield and Johnathan Williams working out all while practicing the NBA's social distancing guidelines.

Based on the NBA's reported proposal to return to play in Orlando, 22 teams will play eight games to finalize the regular-season standings. Nine Eastern Conference teams, including the Wizards, and 13 Western Conference teams.

If the Wizards can draw within four or fewer games of the eighth seed in the East, they'll qualify for a play-in tournament to make the playoffs.

The Wizards weren't expected to contend for a playoff spot entering the 2019-20 season, but after a months-long hiatus due to coronavirus, Washington is arguably in a better position to make the postseason than before the season was suspended.

Time to get ready for it.

John Wall is getting some major help in reaching his fundraising goal to provide rent assistance to residents of Ward 8 amid the coronavirus, as Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has pledged $200,000 to the cause.

Dorsey, who has the handle @Jack, tweeted his plans Wednesday evening. His donation is two-thirds of Wall's goal to raise $300,000.

It is a very generous donation and also a testament to the work Wall is doing to help others during this time. He picked a cause, used his platform to get the information out there and has caught the attention of someone with the money to help.

Wall's intention is to help those in the D.C. area who have been affected most by the coronavirus and the toll it has taken on the economy. Wall said residents in need will receive rental assistance for as long as possible and necessary as the country works to eradicate the virus.
