Wizards forward Kelly Oubre, Jr. is only 20 years old, but he has a strong sense of two things: basketball and fashion.
Between workout sessions and preparing for the start of Wizards training camp (Sept. 27, for your information), Oubre went up to Manhattan to attend New York Fashion Week.
The international event is one of four major fashion weeks in the world, the others being London, Paris and Milan. NYFW ran from Sept. 8 to 15 this year, giving Oubre the perfect window to check out the designer shows.
Having attended two prior fashion weeks, the second-year Wizard knew how to navigate pretty well. This time he brough along a film crew from the National Basketball Players Association for a glimpse into that world.
Oubre took the camera to check out some designer events and in between elaborated on his own fashion industry aspirations. His brand, Dope$oul, is something he eventually hopes to turn into a clothing line of his own one day.
He said he learns by watching how professionals develop a design aesthetic, produce a runway show and manage a brand.
Halfway through the video, Oubre told the story of meeting rapper/fashion designer Kanye West at his Verizon Center performance Sept. 9.
He said the pair talked about Kanye's Yeezy football cleats and potentially working together to make a Yeezy basketball shoe.
So while Oubre will shift his focus to the Wizards for the coming season, keep an eye on his creative side. Who knows, we could see him wearing Yeezys on the court one of these days.
