Jabari Smith is the choice for Orlando, taking the overall pick for the fourth time in their history. He has presumably been the favorite for the pick ever since the ping pong balls fell their way. Smith brings outstanding length, defensive versatility, scoring ability and upside to an Orlando team needing more playmakers.

There's been some momentum in the betting markets for Paolo Banchero to be a sneaky selection by the Magic. Most of the reported discussion, however, has just been between the prototypical NBA prospect in Jabari Smith or the intriguing unicorn upside in Chet Holmgren.

The Thunder/Sonics franchise has picked No. 2 twice before and each time they found a Hall of Famer (Kevin Durant and Gary Payton). Whether Holmgren can be that good or not, he would be a great fit in OKC where defense and length are coveted and outside shooting is desperately needed. Holmgren would develop early on as an ideal complement to guards Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Josh Giddey. SGA's elite ability to attack the lane would be balanced out by Holmgren's outside game. On the other end, Holmgren and Lu Dort could form one of the better defensive duos in the game.

The Rockets may have a future star guard in Jalen Green, and this year they'll be able to snag a future star forward in Banchero. He's an advanced ball-handler for his size, can score in the post, knock down jumpers from the outside and make plays for others. He'll have to improve on defense to hit his ceiling, but everything else is there for Banchero at an early stage of his career.

There has been some speculation about whether the Kings will trade this pick, but that would be risky given the talent likely to still be on the board. Ivey would be tough to pass up, despite the fact they have drafted a ton of guards in recent years. He's a Ja Morant-like athlete with the ability to get to and above the rim in a flash, even when the defense is set in the halfcourt. Ivey also has an impressive feel for the game and a solid 3-point shot. An ideal situation starts him out as a two-guard and that would be the case for the Kings with De'Aaron Fox already in the mix.

Early in the draft process, Mathurin was projected to go late lottery. It never made any sense, as his combination of explosive athleticism, smooth outside shooting and competitive fire makes him an obvious top-10 talent. It's no surprise he has zoomed up draft boards and in this case, would find an ideal situation as a wing to run the floor alongside Cade Cunningham. The Pistons need athletic upside, which he has, and he would be fortunate to land in their player development program under the coaching of Dwayne Casey.

The Pacers need to hit on this draft pick and Keegan Murray projects as one of the most NBA-ready prospects in the lottery. He averaged 23.5 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 1.3 spg and 1.5 bpg while shooting 39.8% from three last year at Iowa. He will also be 22 on opening night, so he should be able to translate quickly. He's a skilled playmaker that can position himself on the wing or down low as a big, which is versatility the Pacers need with a Domantas Sabonis-sized hole in their front court.

There are so many unknowns when it comes Shaedon Sharpe as his last competitive action was in high school. He didn't play at Kentucky and only did a workout at the NBA Combine. Athletically, there are few that can compare, drawing Vince Carter comparisons in his burst and frame. Where he goes will depend on which team in the top-10 falls in love with his upside

Portland can afford to swing for the fences after dealing CJ McCollum at the trade deadline. Sharpe would have little competition for playing time and would be an electric backcourt mate to Damien Lillard.

Daniels' meteoric rise during the pre-draft process takes him to eighth overall and a team in the Pelicans that has some decent guards but needs to add size at the point guard position. Daniels could help them drastically improve their struggling defense once added to the mix with Herbert Jones and, theoretically, Zion Williamson. Daniels and Jose Alvarado would form a tough defensive duo at point, while Daniels would be an excellent complement to shooting guard C.J. McCollum. While New Orleans really needs to add shooting, Daniels' all-around skillset would be difficult to pass up.

One of the biggest knocks on one of the best athletes in this year's class is Jalen Duren's lack of an outside game. Other than that, Duren is a phenomenal traditional center with outstanding strength and rim-running ability to be a true difference-maker. It's just the lack of a jump-shot that limits how high teams aspire to take the 7-foot center. One coach who clearly doesn't care about conventional thinking is Gregg Popovich. Having a top-five talent fall to your lap at No. 9 would be a great addition to a team that needs an answer to the five position with Jakob Poeltl hitting free agency after this season.

With less defined tiers than there usually are, this year's draft could go like 2020 where a few players unexpectedly fall. Griffin is a good candidate to do so given his history of injuries in high school and the fact evaluators have poked holes in his defense over the past month. But the Wizards would be smart to take him, as he shot 45% from three at Duke and shooting is their biggest weakness. He was a major contributor on a Final Four team at just 18 years old. And if he was a high-flyer in high school, so if that athleticism is still there, he could have star potential. Griffin could be a Michael Porter Jr. type value play but with less risk because he played every game at Duke last year.

Johnny Davis has slipped down draft boards after several reports have come out where he did not impress in private workouts. Still, there is a lot to like with Davis who has continuously risen to the occasion when called upon. Davis is a talented scorer at all three levels of the game and fits into a variety of different offensive systems. A lack of a point guard in New York shouldn't hurt Davis' ability to have an impact his rookie year. In fact, if he improves his 30.6% 3-point shooting, he could easily be the lightning rod that Evan Fournier was expected to be last offseason.

Sochan is a big and agile athlete with a lot of potential due to his physical traits, but is a blank canvas in terms of his skillset. Any team that takes him will have to have patience and the right coaching to untap his talents. The Thunder are a perfect fit in that regard and they are trying to build their team from the ground up with a defensive focus. Sochan would be best-served in that type of situation, rather than a team that needs him to contribute sooner than later. He would also have an ideal scenario offensively running the floor with Josh Giddey and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. At this point, he won't be able to create much for himself but those guys can throw him lobs and find him open in the corner.

Patience pays off for Charlotte who FINALLY gets their big man by selecting the center from Durham just down the road. Mark Williams has the upside to be the dominant defensive force in the NBA that the Hornets have been looking for ever since their roster overhaul and placing LaMelo Ball as the centerpiece. Williams averaged 2.8 blocks per game at Duke as the premier show stopper in college basketball. He's also a gifted rebounder and projects to play well in an up-tempo system as a lob option instead of someone parked on the low block. If he upgrades his offensive game, there's a lot of optimism for how good Mark Williams can be.

Cavs GM Koby Altman has demonstrated a knack for the draft in his time leading the front office. In the case of Darius Garland, he showed he's not afraid to take a risk if the potential for great value is there. Dieng would be a different type of risk, but his skillset at 6-foot-9 is enticing (they clearly covet size) and he plays a position of long-term need for Cleveland. They could take their time developing him, hoping he becomes a versatile scorer to offset their strong defense.

He also sprinkled in some moments of brilliance with two 30-point outbursts in Big 10 road games. Branham could be a solid role player on the wing, who could develop into a multi-dimensional player.

Agbaji is one of the best shooters in this draft, which could play very well alongside Trae Young. The Hawks already make threes at a high percentage but could use help scaling up their volume of threes. Agbaji could help that cause right away at 22 and after four years of college. He's a readymade catch-and-shoot wing with the athletic upside to offer some level of potential to be more than that down the road. Atlanta would just have to evaluate his defense, as defense is a big reason why they took a step back last year.

Offensively, Eason is a tough cover who works well in the high post and could open up the door with whatever direction Houston chooses to go over the next several years.

A junior at Ohio St., Liddell improved significantly all three years at school. He is now a legitimate outside threat, who can make plays off the dribble and has an advanced midrange fadeaway. Liddell is quick up and down the floor, with a strong build at 6-foot-7. He also blocks 2.5 shots per game. The trajectory he has shown so far of getting much better each year should be a great sign for any team that drafts him.

Washington could be the next Kentucky guard to prove NBA evaluators wrong, following in the footsteps of Devin Booker, Tyler Herro, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Tyrese Maxey.

However, he is not afraid to score at all three levels and his elite first step makes him an intriguing option.

Whether he's ready to step in and take over for Tyus Jones in the event Jones leaves in free agency or not, Terry is a perfect Grizzlies player because he's a tough defender, he's big for his position and he has an excellent feel for the game. Terry could back up Ja Morant at the one and also complement him in lineups where they play together because he could take on bigger defensive assignments and allow Morant to attack some off the ball

Not only did Wendell Moore's production drastically improve during his junior season but his efficiency is at an elite level. Moore is shot 50/41/81 this season with 13.4 ppg and 4.4 apg. All incredible marks for a player on a team loaded with upper-tier talent. Remember Moore was once a top-25 recruit with lottery aspirations back in 2020. Now it looks like he has put it all together.

The Bucks are trying to win a championship, so it's understandable if they go for short-term need over long-term potential, especially this late in the first round. They need point guard depth, which Chandler would provide. He can shoot, pass and defend, making him an ideal backup for Jrue Holiday. And they have size at other positions, which would help offset the fact he's only 6-feet tall.

Jovic is very mobile for his size and has a good feel for creating his own shot off the dribble. He's also a creative passer. It may take a few years, but he's worth taking a chance on in this range.

Still in the very early stages of their rebuild, the Rockets can afford to take the long view with a guy like Hardy, who has considerable potential. He just didn't produce well enough for G-League Ignite to justify a lottery pick, but he could prove to have lottery pick talent. Hardy could fit well behind Jalen Green at shooting guard and, who knows, maybe three years from now the gamble would pay off in a big way.

Beauchamp plays on the wing, adding length and some additional playmaking skills to Miami. He's another versatile piece that could be put into several different situations and thrive based on his motor and energy.

Patrick Baldwin Jr. is a complete wild card in this draft. Once regarded as a top-five prospect before going to Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he completely fell off the map. An injury limited his time there but beforehand, what he showed was not impressive. Memphis can afford to take a flier here on Baldwin who can facilitate an offense at the four position. If he can be just a fraction of what he was expected to turn into just a year ago, it will be a steal for the Grizzlies.

But blocking shots is his best trait, as he averaged a jaw-dropping 4.6 blocks this season and had games of 11 and 12 blocks.
