Respect is earned, not given, and Wizards star Bradley Beal has earned a lot of it -- just ask future Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade.
Friday afternoon, the "NBA on ESPN" Twitter account tweeted: "Choose a former player to complete the sentence: _______ deserves more credit."
And Wade's response:
Bradley Beal__________ https://t.co/wkfySdpaKB— DWade (@DwyaneWade) May 15, 2020
A few takeaways: Firstly, that's high praise from one of the greatest shooting guards to ever play the game. Bradley Beal has always held Wade in high regard, so much so that he told reporters "Wade is part of the reason that I wear No. 3,” back in January of 2019 (Wade's last game against the Wizards).
"He paved the way for a lot of us in today’s game and to see his hard work and to play as long as he did for one organization … he meant everything to the city of Miami and this team," Beal said. "That’s kind of the legacy that I want to leave behind, too.”
The second takeaway from Wade's tweet is that um, he didn't follow the instructions! The directions stated "former" player, not current. Now, unless Wade is breaking news of Beal's sudden retirement (let's not even play like that), it seems as though he misunderstood the tweet.
In a weird way, that bodes even better for Beal, right? As soon as Wade reads: "player" and "more recognition," the first place his mind goes to is the Panda himself.
Either way, a nice gesture.
