Deni Avdija to wear No. 9 for the Wizards

It's official, the Wizards' newest rookie Deni Avdija will wear No. 9. The team announced the news Friday afternoon on Twitter.

Avdija primarily wore No. 8 overseas playing in Israel, but that's obviously taken by 2019 first-round pick Rui Hachimura. Instead, he'll go with the number of his draft selection, No. 9.

Avdija will be the tenth player in Wizards/Bullets history to wear No. 9, joining the likes of Gilbert Arenas (who wore the number for a single season), Dave Stallworth and Rashard Lewis

Chris Chiozza wore the number last season and the jersey number has been in service in consecutive seasons since 2017.

Following the theme of rookie jersey numbers, second-round selection Cassius Winston will wear No. 5, most recently worn by Shabazz Napier.

Previous Wizards to wear No. 5 include Markieff Morris, Josh Howard, Kwame Brown and Juwan Howard.
