Location: Ontario, California

About: The Agua Caliente Clippers got their name from the the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians in Ontario. Members of the tribe worked with the L.A. Clippers on sponsoring the G-League team as a way to promote the positive representation of Native Americans in sports.

About: The Erie BayHawks have been a part of the G-League for nearly a decade. However, after the Orlando Magic purchased the original BayHawks team and moved them to Lakeland as a new organization, only the team name remained in Erie. Then in 2017, the Atlanta Falcons announced the BayHawks would be their G-League affiliate and they rebuilt the team as an expansion squad.

About: There isn't much of a story behind the Long Island Nets name. It's a simple homage to the original ABA Nets team. However, it's worth mentioning that the Long Island Nets currently play at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, where the New York Nets played for several years.

About: The Delaware 87ers were created in 2013 after the Philadelphia 76ers purchased the defunct Utah Flash, a former G-League team that operated from 2007 to 2011. The 87ers name is directly inspired by the year Delaware became the first state to ratify the United States Constitution.

About: The Lakeland Magic is mostly made up of players from the original Erie BayHawks team that the Orlando Magic purchased in 2016. The team moved the organization to Florida but kept the team name in Erie. Then in April 2017, the organization allowed fans to submit suggestions on what the team name should be. Although fans had some unique ideas, the team decided to go with "Magic."

About: The Swarm team name is meant to be more than a play on the team's connection to Charlotte. Hornets President & COO Fred Whitfield said the name "swarm" could also be used to reflect the passion for basketball in Greensboro, "where fans gather in great numbers to support the game of basketball and show their excitement towards it."

About: The Drive started out in the D-League as the Anaheim Arsenal in 2006. Then in 2009, the team moved to Springfield, Massachusetts, where they were known as the Springfield Armor. Finally, in 2014, the team was purchased and relocated to Grand Rapids, where fans voted on naming the team the "Drive" in a contest.

About: Originally known as the Columbus Riverdragons, the Spurs moved to Austin in 2005 where they were renamed the Austin Toros. Then in 2014, the organization changed their name to the Austin Spurs. The name change was meant to help create a stronger connection between the San Antonio Spurs and its G-league affiliate.

About: In 2007, the Wolves started out in the D-League as the Iowa Energy. Then in 2011, the Energy won the D-League championship after beating the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in Hidalgo. After years of juggling different NBA affiliates like the Grizzlies, Wizards, and Suns, the Minnesota Timberwolves bought the Energy in 2017 and renamed the team the "Wolves."

About: The Warriors have existed in one form or another since 1995 when the team played in the International Basketball Association as the Dakota Wizards. After winning multiple IBA league titles, the Wizards joined the NBA's D-League in 2006. Then in 2011, the Golden State Warriors purchased the franchise and later moved the team to Santa Cruz the following year where they were renamed the Warriors.

About: The Red Claws joined the NBA's G-League in 2009. The organization allowed fans to vote for the team name and a majority of them picked "Red Claws." The name pays homage to the major fishing industry of the Portland, Maine area. Then in 2012, the Red Claws partnered with the Boston Celtics and became the team's G-League affiliate.

About: There isn't much history behind the Westchester Knicks. They joined the NBA's D-League in 2014 as an expansion team, replacing the Erie BayHawks as the New York Knicks' developmental affiliate. Although the organization filed trademarks for creative team names like the Plainsmen, Hutch, 914s and Empire, they ultimately decided to just adopt the Knicks name from their NBA affiliate.

About: The South Bay Lakers have been around since 2006, when they were first known as the Los Angeles D-Fenders. The team name was chosen in a contest where "D-Fenders" came in second place to "Breakers." Although the latter name won, there was already a Breakers team and so the Los Angeles D-Fenders were born. Then in 2017, the D-Fenders were rebranded as the South Bay Lakers as an homage to El Segundo.

About: Earlier this year, the Milwaukee Bucks selected Oshkosh, Wisconsin to be the home of their G-League expansion team. Oshkosh beat out four other finalist cities including Racine, Grand Chute and La Crosse. The organization decided to name the team the "Herd" to reflect the Milwaukee Bucks brand and to describe the city's passionate basketball fan base.

About: The Texas Legends were originally a Continental Basketball Association team known as the Colorado 14ers. In 2006 they became a part of the NBA's developmental league where they later won the league champtionship in 2008. Then a year later, the team was purchased by the Dallas Mavericks and relocated to Frisco, Texas, where they play to this day.

About: Like the Herd, the Bulls are a fairly new expansion team. The team was announced in 2016 and that same year, fans were allowed to submit team name suggestions. After the suggestions were narrowed down, fans were allowed to vote on three finalists and the name "Windy City Bulls" came out on top.

About: The Skyforce are one of the oldest organizations in the G-League. Founded in 1989, the team was originally a part of the Continental Basketball Association. Then in 2006, the team became a part of the D-League where they partnered with the Miami Heat in 2013. The team name came to be after a fan vote in 1989 where two popular suggestions, "Sky" and "Force" were simply put together to create the name "Skyforce."

The team was later named the Raptors 905 after the area code of the suburban Greater Toronto Area. The Raptors became the first NBA developmetal team based on foreign soil.

The Stampede were renamed the Salt Lake City Stars as an homage to both the ABA’s Utah Stars and the WNBA’s Utah Starzz.

The team was also relocated to Prescott Valley, Arizona.

About: The Blue started out in the National Basketball Development League in 2001, where they were known as the Ashville Atttitude. Then in 2005, the team was purchased and moved to Tulsa. The 66ers name is a reference to U.S. Route 66, a highway that runs through Oklahoma and Tulsa. After years of partering with different affiliates, the owner of the Thunder purchased the 66ers in 2008. Then in 2014, the team was moved to Oklahoma City, where they were renamed the OKC Blue.
