With the NBA trade deadline approaching and his name swirling in rumors, Davis Bertans has received a big-time endorsement to stay with the Wizards.
All-Star point guard John Wall sat down with NBC Sports Washington's Chris Miller for an upcoming episode of Wizards Talk, and he says he wants to play with the Latvian Laser. Miller asked Wall who has impressed him the most this season during the time he has sat out and watched while recovering from a ruptured left Achilles.
"Bertans. I knew he could shoot the ball being with the Spurs, but I never knew he could shoot the ball that well. I think it's very amazing if I get the opportunity to have him and Brad on both ends at one time," Wall said.
Bertans, 27, was acquired by the Wizards in a trade over the summer and this season has blossomed into one of the league's best outside shooters. He is knocking down 42.2 percent of his threes on 8.4 attempts per game.
Bertans is also the best catch-and-shoot scorer in the NBA this season. He leads the league in field goals and three-pointers made on those plays with a sky-high 65.0 effective field goal percentage.
That would be a perfect complement to Wall's game. He has a knack for finding open teammates with accurate passes from all over the floor.
"I'm trying to lead the league in assists. I think I should have the opportunity to do that with [Beal and Bertans] and all the other pieces we have," Wall said. "Now it gives me the opportunity when I'm penetrating and going iso, where are you helping from? You really want to leave one of those two guys?"
Wall and Miller discussed a wide range of topics in the in-depth sitdown including Wall's rehab and the passing of his mother. The Wall episode of Wizards Talk drops on Feb. 14.
