As part of NBC Sports Pro Pets series, each week, NBC Sports Washington will release a new short-form video profiling local athletes and the animals they love. Presented by Olde Towne Pet Resort.
While some may describe the Wizards' point guard as "Wolf-like" on the court, it's the four-legged friends off the court that bring out a side of John Wall that most people aren't familiar with.
"I had two tiger-striped pits when I was eight-years-old," Wall said. "Ever since then I just fell in love with them."
Wall is the father of three pit bulls: Lucky, Diamond and Dark Knight (who's named after Wall's favorite movie, the Dark Knight Rises).
'Dark Knight' most closely resembles the 5x NBA All-Star's personality because "He's always chilling and staying in his own zone," Wall said. "But once you make him mad, he's another beast."
Wall also has two French Bulldogs: "Southside" and "Raleigh," who are notably named after where Wall was born and raised.
"Southside is fat and lazy - snorting all day," Wall said. "While Raleigh is the little girl that always wants her belly rubbed on."
Wall has always had a soft spot in his heart for rescue animals, which is why he's worked in the past with the Humane Rescue Alliance. The Humane Rescue Alliance seeks to "tackle the systemic challenges facing animals in the region and beyond, with the goal of saving more lives."
"Sometimes dogs get neglected and aren't treated the right way," Wall said. "Some are basically going through homelessness, but they're dogs."
"These dogs want a good home but they can't find one. I know some people see that us athletes care about it so they go and adopt."
While Wall is recovering from an Achilles injury that will most likely sideline him for the entirety of the 2019-2020 NBA season, he knows his "kids" will be at home supporting him every step of the way because hey, dogs love long walks.
