Crazed sports dad LaVar Ball may have started the entire thing, but Lakers players are not happy with how Wizards center Marcin Gortat responded.
Over the weekend, Lonzo Ball's dad said in an on-camera interview: "Washington is coming in here Wednesday? They better beware because Lonzo ain't losing again, not in the same week," a reference to his son, the Lakers' starting point guard.
Gortat then reponsed with a tweet saying "John Wall will torture him" for 48 minutes.
Though one could argue that is not a wild claim, that Wall is likely to give Ball a very tough time, Gortat's tweet did not sit well with Lakers players.
"Yeah of course we did," Brandon Ingram told ESPN. "Everyone has social media, definitely saw it. The competitor in Lonzo, of course he didn't take it so well and with his teammates behind him, we didn't take it so well."
Ball, true to his usual style, didn't go there. Though his father is known as a loudmouth, Ball is much more reserved.
"It's going to be a lot of fun. [Wall is] one of the best point guards in this league," Ball said. "So I'm just going to go out there and compete and see what happens."
Wall talked about LaVar and Lonzo Ball on the Wizards Tipoff podcast over the weekend and said Lonzo will be targeted by other NBA players because of his father. But, Wall added that he doesn't blame Lonzo, that he seems like a nice kid.
So, will Wall go after Lonzo like Patrick Beverley did and try to embarrass him? We'll find out Wednesday night at 10:30 p.m. on NBC Sports Washington.
