The 10 starters for next month's 2021 NBA All-Star game were announced on Thursday night, featuring some perennial mainstays and some newcomers as Bradley Beal of the Wizards and Nikola Jokic of the Nuggets will each start the game for the first time in their careers.
LeBron James of the Lakers got the most votes in the Western Conference and Kevin Durant received the most in the East, meaning they will serve as captains of the two All-Star teams and pick their players in a draft.Â
NBA All-Star starters are voted in by fans, players and the media. Fan voting carries the most weight, as it accounts for half.
Here are the starters for each team...
EAST
G Bradley Beal, Wizards
G Kyrie Irving, Nets
F Kevin Durant, Nets
FÂ Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks
F Joel Embiid, Sixers
WEST
G Stephen Curry, Warriors
G Luka Doncic, Mavs
F Kawhi Leonard, Clippers
F LeBron James, Lakers
F Nikola Jokic, Nuggets
This is James' 17th All-Star appearance, third-most all-time. He is now only one behind Kobe Bryant, who is in second place, and two behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who has the record with 19.Â
Durant now has the second-most All-Star appearances among active players with 11, breaking a tie with Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul. Curry and Irving are now seven-time All-Stars, while Antetokounmpo and Leonard will go for the fifth time in their careers.
Embiid is making his fourth All-Star appearance, while Beal and Jokic are each making their third. Doncic is now a two-time All-Star.
Though the two starting lineups are split across conferences, they will likely mix once James and Durant draft their teams. There will also be seven reserves from each conference chosen by head coaches. The full rosters will be announced on Feb. 23.
The 2021 NBA All-Star game will take place on March 7 in Atlanta.
