NBA Rumors: NBA reportedly proposes massive changes to regular season schedule, playoff bracket

Come the 2021-22 season, the NBA could look a lot different.

According to Shams Charania, the NBA proposed changes to the regular season schedule, playoff seeding and featured the inclusion of an in-season tournament.

Here's a full breakdown of the changes:

  • 78-game regular season schedule
  • In-season tournament: Awards $1 million to each player and $1.5 million to the coaching staff of the winning team
  • Play-in tournaments for the 7-8 seeds in each conference
  • Re-seed the conference finals based on regular season records

Charania later detailed the parameters for the in-season tournament that supposedly start in late November and end in mid-December and include a minimum of eight games for each team involved.

While the regular season may be shortened by four games, the tournament raises the minimum number of games each team will have to play before the playoffs to 86.

Teams still have to agree to the changes before they're rolled out in two seasons, so we'll now wait on how they respond to the league's proposal.
