Neither Russell Westbrook nor Davis Bertans were expected to play in the Wizards' second preseason game against the Pistons Thursday night, and now they've been officially listed as out.
Rui Hachimura (eye) and Garrison Mathews (hip) were also listed on the injury report as questionable for Washington's preseason home opener.
Head coach Scott Brooks didn't seem to think it necessary that Westbrook got extra run in the preseason. Some players need more time in the preseason to get ready, but Brooks noted Westbrook as an exception to that rule. Westbrook still has a chance to get on the floor Saturday against the Pistons before Washington begins its regular season against the Sixers on December 23.
Bertans will continue to rest after arriving late to Wizards training camp because of a work visa issue. He has mostly participated in individual workouts in practice as he works to get his conditioning back in order.
Hachimura missed practice earlier this week with an eye issue, though Brooks didn't consider it to be serious.
Meanwhile, Bradley Beal is set to make his preseason debut for the Wizards after sitting out the team's first tilt against the Nets Sunday. He's coming off a career-year where he averaged over 30 points and six assists per game and will attempt to lead the Wizards back to the playoffs after a two-year absence from postseason play.
