In each of the last two seasons, Wizards All-NBA guard Bradley Beal has finished second in scoring, to Stephen Curry last season and James Harden the year before.
If his odds on PointsBet Sportsbook are any indication, he'll be in the scoring title conversation once again in 2021-22. He is currently tied with Mavericks star Luka Doncic for the best odds to lead the league in scoring at +300.
It's still early in the NBA offseason and much is to be decided with plenty of rosters across the NBA, but there's reason for optimism around Beal's chances to capture the elusive scoring title. He's increased his scoring average in three straight seasons, eclipsing 30.0 points per game each of the last two -- 30.5 PPG in 2019-20 and 31.3 PPG in 2020-21.
The last player to average at least 30 points in consecutive seasons was Harden, who led the league three straight years from 2017-2020. Beal seemed poise to claim Harden's place atop that list last season, leading the league for much of the year until a late surge by Curry saw the two-time MVP claim his second career scoring title, with an average of 32.0 PPG.
However, there is reason to believe Curry could see a slight drop off next season with backcourt mate Klay Thompson expected back eventually. Additionally, Beal's load could increase without Russell Westbrook in tow. It's yet to be seen how new Wizards coach Wes Unseld Jr. will utilize all of Washington's new pieces around Beal, but without a second star to lean on, Beal could potentially look to score more often.
At +500, Curry has the third-best odds to lead the league in scoring behind Beal and Doncic. Damian Lillard (+700) and Joel Embiid (+800) round out the top five.
