SANTA CLARA -- Safety Reggie Smith sat out most of Saturday's 49ers practice with an undisclosed injury, and his future is clouded after a message he posted Sunday on Twitter."Everything happens 4 a reason & I believe it," Smith wrote. "Just wished it wouldn't have happened right now. But with God on my side I know it will be OK."The 49ers have agreed to terms with safety Dashon Goldson on a one-year contract, said a league source, confirming a report Monday morning on Pro Football Talk. It appears as if Goldson will be taking Smith's spot.REPORT: Goldson to re-sign with 49ers for one year
Smith started seven games for the 49ers last season, and was in line to start at free safety. Smith had gotten off to a strong start in 49ers' training camp. He appeared to solidify his starting role through the first seven practices. But he did not step onto the field for 11-on-11 work Saturday."He started out," 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said of Smith, declining to reveal the specifics or extent of the injury. "And then he felt something that limited him the rest of the day."
