On the same day one of the guys he was traded for was equaling a 94-year-old record for the A's, Arizona pitcher Trevor Cahill was giving up a 485-foot bomb to San Diego's Cameron Maybin:Your browser does not support iframes. And yes, Cahill (6-7) was also tagged with the loss in Arizona's 6-2 defeat.Maybin's blast to the picnic tables in left centerfield at Chase Field in Arizona is believed to be one-foot farther than Nelson Cruz's shot in Texas on June 3 in Anaheim.
Giants fans can tip their cap to Cahill for helping San Francisco gain a half-game over the DBacks in the NL West during an off day, and A's fans can tip their hat to Billy Beane for securing All-Star Ryan Cook, Colin Cowgill and Jarrod Parker last offseason for Cahill and reliever Craig Breslow.
Truth be told, Cahill's 6-7 record isn't off-the-charts bad and his ERA (3.64) remains pretty good. But Parker (5-3, 2.46) has A's fans thinking big things are ahead for the right-hander after a strong start to his first full year in the majors.
Against the Red Sox on Monday, Parker equaled Ferdie Schupp's 1918 record by allowing one run or less in 10 of his first 14 career starts.Geoff James is a web producer for CSNBayArea.com
