SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants have activated outfielder Carlos Beltran from the 15-day DL, manager Bruce Bochy announced Tuesday. Beltran is available for the series opener against San Diego but is not in the lineup.

No corresponding roster move has been announced. Those details will be updated as soon as they become available.

Outfielder Nate Schierholtz is a primary candidate to land on the DL. He's been battling a sore foot after fouling a ball of it in the eighth inning of the Aug. 15 game in Atlanta.

Tuesday, Schierholtz was wearing a protective boot on the injured food and he told reporters that an MRI and CT scan performed Monday revealed a "crack."

In 11 games with the Giants, Beltran is hitting .244 with no home runs and two RBI. He was placed on disabled list on Aug. 8 with a strained hand. He was injured during an Aug. 7 at-bat against the Pirates and was forced to leave the game.

The Giants acquired the slugger in a late July trade with the Mets that sent promising pitcher Zack Wheeler to New York.
