Liz Cocker has a natural love for swimming. She was also born profoundly deaf.

When Cocker was just 16 months old, doctors told her parents that she wouldn’t read past a 3rd grade level and she wouldn’t have a normal life. But despite her disadvantages, Cocker is looking forward to meeting her next challenge ... bringing home a medal in the 2017 Deaf Olympic Games, which begin July 18 in Turkey.

Cocker worked hard to excel in the pool and in the classroom. And after breaking several swimming records in high school, she now competes for Cal State East Bay. And after breaking the US Deaf Swimming League record in the the 50 yard butterfly, at a meet in February, she was invited to represent the United States at the 2017 Deaf Olympic Games.
