Price ‘essentially in spring training' as he completes second bullpen session

BOSTON -- David Price’s second bullpen session went well, the lefty said Wednesday. He threw only fastballs and 35 pitches, he said, leaving the breaking ball as an upcoming test.

“Different throw,” Price said when asked why the breaking ball has waited. “Adds more stress to the elbow and everything else.”

Basically, he’s in February.

“This is essentially spring training all over for me,” Price said. “I want to get through today and make sure I feel good tomorrow.”

Price said he didn’t know what was next, including whether or not he may indeed face hitters next week as Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski has said is possible.

Momentum has grown in recent weeks, Price concurred.

“I mean yeah. I’ve gotten off the mound,” Price said. “I’ve thrown breaking balls on flat ground. It’s building.”

Price said his intensity didn't seem to change from this bullpen session compared to Monday's, necessarily — although logically, as he gets stronger, his throws become more intense.

"I don’t feel like my intensity really changes," Price said.
