Report: Sox discussed sending Beckett, Ellsbury to Texas

The Red Sox and Rangers discussed a potential blockbuster trade that would have send Josh Beckett, Jacoby Ellsbury and Kelly Shoppach to Texas, according to WEEI.com's Rob Bradford.

Quoting "multiple major league sources", Bradford said it was "unclear" whom the Sox would have received in return. It was also unclear as to how far the talks proceeded; one source described the discussion as "nothing more than a theoretical back and forth of ideas", while another said they "reached a more advanced stage before hitting a wall".

In any case, talks apparently broke down Monday afternoon and the Rangers eventually acquired Ryan Dempster from the Cubs.
