McCourty reacts to election results: ‘We just have to pray'

FOXBORO -- Earlier this season, Devin McCourty proved he was willing make his voice heard when it comes to social issues. Back in Week 1 he raised his fist, along with Martellus Bennett, following the playing of the national anthem in Arizona, and he heard about it afterward.

On Wednesday, he was asked for his reaction to the results of the presidential election. Though many of his teammates felt as though it wasn't their place to discuss politics on Election Day, McCourty opened up.

"I think for a lot of us, it was a time where – I didn’t expect that," he said. "But I think you understand politics is different. Everyone is trying to win a race and you’re doing different things to win a race.

"I think just talking to our chaplain [Jack Easterby], he said it best: We just have to pray for the leadership of our country whether you agree with it, disagree with it. You pray for the leadership, and you believe there’s a way everything will be all right."

While McCourty didn't say which candidate he preferred, his honest response indicated that Donald Trump's election to the highest office in the land may take some getting used to for him.

"Everything doesn’t go the way you want it personally, but that’s where I’m at," McCourty continued. "Pray on it, and hope everything works out well, and believe in God."
