The Cubs and starting pitcher Jake Arrieta avoided arbitration ahead of Friday's deadline, according to MLB Network Insider Jon Heyman.
Arrieta's one-year deal for the 2017 season will be worth $15.6375 million, per Heyman's report.
Arrieta, 30, registered an 18-8 record with a 3.10 ERA and 190 strikeouts in 31 starts last season, following up his breakout Cy Young season in 2015.
