White Sox 7th-round pick Blake Hickman to have Tommy John surgery

Blake Hickman's pro career won't get off to the ideal start he was hoping for. 

The right-hander from the University of Iowa will undergo Tommy John surgery, the team confirmed on Saturday. Hickman was selected in the seventh round of the 2015 MLB Draft at No. 202 overall.

Hickman is a Simeon graduate and grew up on the South Side. He also participated in the Sox Amateur City Elite program. He is the first player to come out of the ACE program to be drafted in the first 10 rounds of the MLB Draft.

Hickman, 21, signed with the White Sox following the draft with a reported signing bonus of $200,000. The right-hander went 9-2 with a 2.99 ERA over 84.1 innings in his final season in Iowa City.
