School: Fremd Vikings

Head coach: Lou Sponsel

Assistant coaches: Dan Davis, Steve Patton, Jeff Williams, Jim Farrell, Dave Hochstetter, Jon Janus, Rich Cordova, John Plantz, Josh Teschner, Dan Seymour, Paul Hardy, 3 TBA

How they fared in 2015: 5-5 (1-4) Mid Suburban West. Fremd made the 2015 IHSA Class 8A state playoff field. The Vikings lost to Oak Park-River Forest in opening round action.

Biggest storyline in 2016: While the Vikings return 13 starters from a season ago, who will become the go-to guy in 2016?

Names to watch this season: OL/DL Zach Schau, RB/DB Collin Mergi, QB/LB Matt Zinnen

Biggest holes to fill: Gone this fall is standout RB/S Kenny Lyke (Michigan State) who was the go-to guy last season for Fremd.

EDGY's Early Take: Fremd will again be in the thick of things in what is shaping up to be another very strong year in the Mid Suburban West conference race. Look for Fremd to challenge for a conference title.
